With her upcoming Verve Records debut, Linger Awhile, 22-year-old Samara Joy makes her case to join the likes of Sarah, Ella, and Billie as the next mononymous jazz singing sensation recorded by the venerable label. Matthew Kraemer returns to lead an evening of premieres in concert for New Orleans! Big Chief Juan Pardo joins the LPO for a world premiere piece by Maxim which tells the story of the Mardi Gras Indians and celebrates the unique, distinct, remarkable culture found only in New Orleans. The orchestra will also be featured in a new work, Kiskadee by Arlene Sierra and a preview of Wynton Marsaslis’ Concerto For Orchestra.
Kiskadee was commissioned by the League of American Orchestras with the generous support of the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation.
There will be an Open Rehearsal at 10:00 am. Tickets are $10.
